STATUS OF IMMIGRATION DUE TO COVID-19

In an effort to keep everyone updated on our constantly-changing immigration policy, check out this status update. And while accustomed to immigration policy changing like the political winds, this situation is unprecedented and like everything else, we’re all working to keep up with the situation.

 

  1. USCIS – While USCIS is still working on processing cases, they have cancelled all in-person appointments (including biometrics, interviews and oath ceremonies) through at least April 1.
  2. Immigration Courts– All non-detained immigrant removal hearings canceled through at least April
  3. 10. ICE – Will reportedly focus detention efforts on those who pose a public safety risk and are “subject to mandatory detention based on criminal grounds.” The local ICE office in Birmingham is suspending check-ins until at least May 1. Additionally, some deportation flights have been suspended.
  4. Consulate Offices – Many US consulate offices abroad (including Ciudad Juarez) have canceled all in person interviews
  5. Refugees – Admission into the US suspended for the time being.
  6. Visas – DOS has suspended entry of immigrants (who are not US citizens or permanent residents) from many countries.
