A permanent resident can file for his/her spouse and unmarried son or daughter.
Should I hire a notary (non-attorney) to help me with my immigration case?
Only a licensed lawyer or BIA accredited representative is authorized and qualified to assist you with your immigration case. Immigration lawyers have completed extensive education and training before being licensed to represent clients.
Notaries are not lawyers, and have not necessarily received any legal training whatsoever. It is against the law for notaries to provide any immigration advice or fill out forms. Only properly licensed immigration lawyers or BIA accredited representatives are qualified to do so. Remember that every case is different and be sure to hire a licensed immigration lawyer with experience in your kind of case. For more info, see www.stopnotariofraud.org.
