Jeremy Love – Managing Attorney

From a young age, Jeremy Love has been passionate about helping those in need. During his legal career, he has volunteered at Legal Services Alabama, the World Jurist Association, the Latin American Association and the International Institute of Rhode Island. Jeremy began working in private practice after law school in Atlanta, but left Troutman Sanders LLP to return to his native Birmingham and become the Legal Services Director at the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama (HICA). At HICA he assisted low-income members of the immigrant community by conducting consultations, filing immigration applications and conducting legal clinics around the state.

Jeremy returned to private practice in 2012 and formed The Love Law Firm, LLC, where he focuses his practice around immigration. He received his law degree from Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI, a degree in Spanish from the University of Tennessee and is a member of both the Alabama and Georgia state bars. Jeremy served on the board of directors at the Birmingham Volunteer Lawyers Program. He received a Certificate of Commendation from the US Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division for “outstanding performance and invaluable assistance.” Jeremy was featured in B-Metro Magazine's "Stars of the Bar" special report as a "young attorney on the rise."

Jeremy enjoys traveling with his wife and son, live music, and attending football and soccer games. He also supports organizations such as Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice and the Birmingham Zoo.


Kimberly Gubert – Associate Attorney

Kimberly grew up in Alabama and recently moved back from Louisiana where she obtained her law degree from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center from Louisiana State University. She is also a graduate from the University of Alabama where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in English and International Studies with a minor in Spanish. While in law school, Kimberly dedicated her time in an immigration clinic where she helped immigrants obtain legal status in the USA.

Kimberly’s caseload focuses primarily on humanitarian immigration relief and removal proceedings. She handles cases related to Asylum, the Violence Against Women Act, U-Visas, Special Immigrant Juvenile Classification, and cases concerning immigrants who have been placed in removal proceedings with the immigration court system. By practicing law solely in the area of immigration, she has built her knowledge of the United States immigration legal framework over the last couple years.

Her family from her mother’s side are from El Salvador, which has enabled her to understand the Hispanic culture and to pursue her career in immigration. In her free time, Kimberly enjoys reading, watching football and spending time with family and friends.


Mariangelie Velazquez Pagan - Paralegal

Mariangelie Velazquez Pagan handles cases including Family Petitions, Adjustment of Status, Fiancé Visas, U-Visas and VAWA petitions. She is fluent in English and Spanish and serves as liaison between attorneys and clients while providing timely and professional service to all.

Mariangelie graduated, Cum Laude, from the University of Puerto Rico with a B.A. in Criminal Justice and from the American Bar Association (ABA) accredited Paralegal Program at Samford University, where she was on the Dean’s List. Mariangelie is originally from Puerto Rico and moved to Birmingham in 2012.  She enjoys traveling, dancing, listening to audiobooks and spending time with her family, friends and two dogs.


Julie Hand – Paralegal

Julie Hand specializes in cases including U-Visas, Adjustments of Status, DACA, and VAWA petitions. She works directly with clients in the preparation of cases and provides a range of services for the firm.

Julie graduated from the University of Alabama with a double degree in Business and Spanish. She became interested in immigration after her time volunteering with immigrants in ESL classes during college. Prior to joining our team, Julie spent a year teaching English to high school students in Madrid, Spain. Her love for other cultures makes her passionate about helping those who have immigrated to the United States. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, live music, and spending time with friends and family.


Mayra Martinez – Legal Assistant

Mayra graduated from the University of West Georgia with a concentration in Mass Communications and a minor in marketing. She has always been passionate about immigrant rights and hopes to continue to help the immigrant community serving as a legal assistant.  Mayra is the first point of contact with the firm as well as the firm’s Social Media Manager. She assures each client is assisted as expeditiously as possible. She aides the attorneys and paralegals to effectively execute the clients’ and the firm’s needs.

For leisure, Mayra enjoys exploring new places, concerts, photography, guitar, traveling and spending time with friends and family.
